Catching an hour or so

For some reason after the excitement Autumn brings in relation to woodland and colour, winter is not a season I find motivating to get out and shoot unless very specific conditions prevail, such as fog, mist or frost.

For some reason December and January have largely passed me by. Life has been busy & I’ve had little opportunity or motivation to get out with the camera.

Yesterday I managed an hour out – almost forced myself to get out and wander some local woodland close to home. It was great to get out amongst it, even though the boring, grey flat light didn’t add much to the mood – at least for photographs.

I also find the woodland around here do not offer much in the way of colour, all of the trees and undergrowth seem to merge into one colour. But the important thing is getting out, getting the legs moving and enjoying the surroundings.

I chose to limit myself with just the Nikon Z7ii along with a 28mm and 40mm lens. An odd couple of choices for being out in woodland, but sometimes it’s good to travel light and force yourself to think a bit more.

For sure, it’s made me think I need to spend more time out in the countryside. It’s great to be out there and great for my mental health.
