Morning Glory in the Fog

As the first light creeps through the curtains and you know it’s going to be a foggy morning, I’m always amazed at the buzz of excitement I feel as I leap out of bed, through the shower and out in the car almost with a last gasp coffee in hand.

Today was no different. The only great thing was being out at a ‘sensible’ time of the day and not the usual stupid o’clock that most landscape photographers only know too well.

Having an idea the fog was going to be local to me & the fact I have work to attend to, I wanted to stay local and within 10 minutes of me is a small, but lovely area of woodland that I love to immerse myself in. It’s one of those small woodland areas I found during Covid, that I keep returning to given the right kind of conditions.

The great thing about returning to the same small area is that I am still able to find compositions that I haven’t seen before & today was the same. There’s one image I wanted to take which I’ve taken previously on a prime lens, this time armed with a zoom lens I felt I could look for something slightly different, take my time and look at alternate views of the same scene… something I don’t do often as I tend to shoot one image and move on.

I’ll be honest, I love foggy conditions and being out in the woodland when the fog is about. It seems like this winter all I’ve managed to do is drag my sorry ass out of bed when there’s fog about. For some reason, with cold, dark mornings I lose my mojo for getting out there, however whenever I do I always have a great time losing myself for a couple of hours or so.

The resolution is to get out more even when the weather conditions aren’t as ideal as I’d like them.
